In the course of my 35-year architectural career, I have learned to design in a broader perspective. I learned to be more sensible to humanist values, environmental implications and sustainability, in both form and content. I have become to assume a more central role to put the design on par with the development of the social issues. Backed by a successful experience of collaboration between Harvard communities when I designed the Harvard Medical School New Research Building (the largest building ever built by Harvard University), it signifies the direction of addressing many of the same issues that now face my new life science building project. To meet the goals of providing a world-class facility to assist Massachusetts in furtherance of its competitive position as a global leader in the life sciences and realize the potential of energizing the local economy, I had an integrated practice design approach at the concept phase including academic, researcher and local communities. Cheng Kung University has entered a transformational period under the government “Funds for Excellence” Program (57 million/yr for five years). With needed resources are amply at hand, how the alumni can support our school in ways that weather the current bleak economic climate and proceed in more expansive internationalization of research and teaching; deepening engagement with technology and educational innovation. I truly believe our school motto of “Discover the truth, Devoted to knowledge” can be adopted to discover how to collaborate to revitalize the educational mission of the School. 珍惜在美紐英崙地區與成大校友所結緣份感謝趙章績會長及紐英崙成大校友會的提名感謝柯乃南學長三十多年來的支持與友誼感謝父母親的養育之恩, 弟妹的親情家人的了解及支持.
