For more than two decades, in a rather quiet way, Stephen and Jane have dedicated their services to the Chinese-American community in the San Francisco Bay Area in general and to the NCKUAA-NC in particular. They did them when they held those positions listed above and they did them when they were not holding any position as well. They have been great help to the Association’s annual picnic, the Chinese-American Olympic Tournament, and the Phoenix Flower Night. Stephen produced the Bay Area’s first-ever Chinese Literature Forum in 1984 when he was the President of the Association. He did it again several times with various organizations. In 2002, he did it with Taiwan Univ. Alumni Asso. Stephen got most of the credit for their contributions but it has been Jane’s background support that should be counted with more weight. Jane is really the more “unsung” one of the couple. Experience or Professional Recognition Stephen graduated from NCKU’s Civil Eng. Dept. with a BS in 1962 and an MS in 1964, the same year when Jane graduated with her BA in Foreign Language. They were in NCKU’s campus for four year together but they didn’t know each other until the day before they boarded the charter flight from Taipei to San Francisco in 1965. They got married in 1967 in Berkeley when Stephen worked on his Ph. D. at University of California. Currently, Stephen works for the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. He is quite active in the Pressure Vessels and Piping Division of the Amer. So. of Mech. Engrs. He has received numerous professional recognitions in his career. Stephen also enjoys Chinese literature writing. He has published two books of essays and short stories. Jane worked for Southern Pacific Railroad Company and IBM as an information technology specialist until she retired in 2001. They have two sons. Alvin is a writer. He published his first novel in 2000. Henry is working in the field of computer science.
